Reducing waste and improving energy efficiency is important to us at ZHT. Which is why Sustainability in CNC Machining and eco-friendly practices matter.
So what does that look like when it comes to Precision CNC Machining? Allow us to share!
Sustainability in CNC Machining
CNC machining is known for its precision and efficiency, but it’s essential to consider its environmental impact as well.
Here are several eco-friendly practices that can help reduce the environmental footprint of CNC machining operations:
Choices in Material
Choose sustainable and recyclable materials whenever possible is paramount. And because a large part of what we. Work with is steel, its actually one of the most recycled materials on the planet.
In addition, maximizing the material we use and minimizing waste are crucial in making CNC machining more eco-friendly.
Energy Efficient Practices
Our Hermle work centres that can hold tolerances within 0.005 micron positional and 1° angular accuracies, which means less waste in time and materials for us and our customers.
Reducing energy and materials consumption not only lowers costs, but also benefits the
environment. Our high-end Hermle work centres give us the means to effectively accomplish our projects without wasting energy on errors.
In addition, our CNC controlled 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining capabilities allow us to offer a range of machinable material options. These materials include hard metals that we can run with ultra- high precision on our 5axis Hermle C42 with a 31.5 inch (800 mm) by 40 inch (1016 mm) work envelope.
While we can machine the harder metals, we work within the environment of what is best for our customers and their own needs and best practices. This includes stainless steel and aluminium materials.
All the chips and off cut materials are sorted into their groups and picked up by our local recycle company to be repurposed.
It makes us feel good to have a lean shop, and to help the environment!
Consistent Supply Chain Relationships
Where possible, we source our materials locally to reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation. Beyond that, we maintain a consistent relationship with our suppliers, ensuring we maximize our material orders.
Local Training
At ZHT, we offer CNC Machinist Co-op Opportunities in Port Coquitlam, educating and engaging our workforce in sustainable practices, while also collaborating fresh ideas with timeless expertise.
Sustainable machining benefits the planet, while also benefiting your business through precision parts. We’re here for that!
